Developing medical devices, diagnostics and digital technologies (HealthTech) that are sustainable and fit for the future is a global challenge for healthcare and society. The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) recognise the need to deliver healthcare in a more sustainable way. HealthTech presents significant opportunities to advance this goal and both organisations are committed to supporting the NHS to deliver its net zero strategy.
For innovators across the HealthTech industry, understanding how to embed sustainable practices early on in product design is a key enabler for developing meaningful Net Zero practices. However, the process can be challenging and difficult to navigate. To address this, in Spring 2026 NIHR’s HealthTech Research Centre Network delivered a Net Zero Catalyst to a group of HealthTech companies in partnership with product design consultancy Pd-m. The Catalyst provided hands-on training, showing companies how to embed sustainability early on in product design.
The session showcased the exceptional work of HealthTech innovators on the Catalyst, and provided insights into NIHR’s and ABHI’s work to build a sustainable HealthTech industry.
This session was delivered by the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre Network's HealthTech Forum, a professional community for HealthTech to share expertise, build networks and generate insights. Connect with the HealthTech community through discussion spaces, events and insights by joining the HealthTech Forum on the digital collaboration space Futures. Complete this short form to join.
